I agree about self-representation; it's also about embodying yourself in a way that you feel you have Authority in the classroom, even if a part of your pedagogy is about deconstructing authoritative roles. Particularly because I look young, I try to be conscious of 'dressing the part.' The other day, in line for lunch on the day of the faculty lunch meeting, the woman swiping cards noticed me and said, "Faculty?" I felt so proud! Someone knew I was a grownup, and I didn't even have to have my kid with me to do it!
